Stay hydrated!
Dang it is hot and muggy here in Indiana!! I go outside and work in the garden or on a walk and I’m quickly drenched with sweat. When did we start living in a swamp? Did I sign up for this? When outdoor activities get the sweat pouring, hydration is at the top of the list for being safe and comfortable.
Of course water is life and we should start there to stay hydrated. If you’re exerting yourself through outdoor activities such as running, cycling, gardening, hiking, yard work, etc your body isn’t going to absorb water alone at the level it needs to cool and sustain your muscles. To replenish your body you need those electrolytes. Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge and become electrically charged with dissolved in water.
While there are numerous options for sports drinks, you can easily make one at home with a few ingredients. My husband and I drink them after a sauna, a hike, or if we feel like water hasn’t been enough. I’ll give you the ratio Stacy Sims recommends:
1/16th teaspoon salt
1Tablespoon of maple syrup
16 oz water
(I like to add fresh lemon or lime juice to mine)
We also add a little bit of powdered magnesium and/ or lite table salt which is potassium chloride.
Note: Do your own research to establish your macros, if you track them. This is just a DIY life hack I wanted to share with you.
Stay healthy and hydrated!
